On July 31, 2007, members of the CMTA Board of Directors, CMTA Executive Director Charles F. Hagins, and a representative from Scootaround met at the Sears Tower in Chicago to make the CMTA’s first award of a mobility scooter to Carol Simpson, the only member of her family to have CMT.
Carol, a resident of Grand Rapids, MI, was joined by members of her family from Chicago and Texas, all of whom came to witness the big event and help Carol transport the scooter home.
In an article for The CMTA Report, Elizabeth Ouellette, the CMTA Board member who initially contacted Scootaround and the Clarence Vincent Foundation about the possibility of a scooter giveaway, described the constraints Carol had endured with regard to her mobility and how the joy of regaining her freedom and mobility deeply touched Carol and everyone else present. (You can read Elizabeth’s article in the September/October issue of The CMTA Report.)
